The Power of your Mindset – Vivienne Joy

Is your mindset ruining or growing your business?

Your mindset is essential and it affects everything from your home life, relationships, feelings, and business. Mindset involves mood, motivation, beliefs, and so much more. Renowned Stanford University Psychologist Carol S Dweck, PhD, believes there are two types of mindset: fixed mindset and growth mindset.

A fixed mindset is when you believe your abilities are fixed traits and, therefore, cannot be changed.

A growth mindset believes effort and persistence can develop your talents and abilities over time.

Recognising your current mindset can be the key to making a long-lasting change in your life and your business. Success or failure; joy or misery?

The choice is in your hands; well, actually it’s in your mind!

How your mindset affects business

Having a fixed mindset regarding your business can be limiting.

Why would anyone else believe in you if you don’t believe in yourself?

Why would someone want to work with you and pay for your service if you don’t believe in what your company does or sells?

Your self-belief will radiate like a beacon of hope or a flare of anxiety.

If you’re fixed with believing you are as good as you will get, you won’t be taking leaps to try new things, scaling your business, and trusting yourself and your intuition.

I live by a famous saying, “If you are not growing, you are dying.”

This fixed mindset leads to things like:

  • Undercharging or over-delivering
  • Not creating higher-level offerings
  • Comparisonitis
  • Working with people who aren’t suitable for you
  • Lack of boundaries
  • Being ‘stuck’ in your business

You may have been in a fixed mindset without even knowing it if you feel like this. There is a good reason why business owners create this situation. It provides certainty, which is your unconscious brain’s primary job – to be certain and to keep you alive.

The first and most important step is recognising the certainty you are serving, finding a different way of serving it, and then working through ways to grow to take your business to wherever you want it to go.

7-Step Mindset Reframe

If you find that you have more of a fixed mindset than a growth mindset, you need to work on switching that around! Ask yourself these questions and write down the answers:

  1. Where do you feel you want to be?
  2. What are some actionable ways you can move towards that place?
  3. What has been holding you back?
  4. What excuses are you making?
  5. What positive outcome comes from staying stuck?
  6. What would you like to do to move forward?
  7. How can you start that right now?

Stick the answers to your fridge, noticeboard and bedroom mirror. Somewhere you can see them all the time, then think of them with feeling.

You are worth taking some time over.

Deciding what you want, where you want to be, and what is holding you back so that you can start believing that you can get yourself and your business there.

It often helps to talk to someone at a different stage of business or an expert at asking deep structure questions—talking it out and getting the clarity you need to move forward. As a Mindset Reset Expert and Business Coach, I am not afraid to ask the difficult questions that will get to the root of things!

The power of your mindset

Those who do the inner work, and continue to do so, will notice that how they react to previously stressful situations doesn’t impact them the same way. They are not as triggered; or have a different reaction to a trigger.

Money isn’t a constant issue to deal with anymore.

Being good enough or fitting in is no longer a constant worry.

You are far more confident than you’ve ever been.

It can almost feel effortless, that flow you hear people talk of.

You know what you want to do and be, and you’re not afraid to go and get it! Not doing so seems ridiculous.

Think about where you want to be by the end of the day, week, month, or even year?

Remember, you are strong, capable, adaptable, and resilient.

Think of past experiences that evidence this.

If you’re struggling to do this, I’d love to help.

You can and will get through whatever you put your mind to.
